Cotton

Cotton is a soft, fluffy staple fiber that grows in a protective capsule or covering around cotton seeds of the genus Gossypium in the family Malvaceae. The fibers consist almost of pure cellulose and may contain small amounts of waxes, fats, pectin and water.

These fibers can be made into a variety of fabrics, from lightweight voiles and lace to heavy canvases and high-pile velvets, suitable for a variety of apparel, furnishings and industrial applications. Cotton fabrics can be extremely durable and resistant to abrasion. Cotton accepts many dyes and is generally suitable for washing and ironing at relatively high temperatures.
